Book Review: The Pelican Brief – John Grisham

The Pelican BriefThe Pelican Brief by John Grisham

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I got this book from a friend who was quite non-chalant about it and well it’s The John Grisham. I thought I should give it a try and I wasn’t totally disappointed.

I particularly loved the plot. Inasmuch as I wasn’t so keen on the legal theme, I’m surprised the suspense and the bits of humour sustained my interest till the end. Fantastic storytelling even though I felt there was too much emphasis on stereotypes. I also thought it was a bit predictable. I mean, with the number of books I’ve read prior to this, I think I have an idea of how plots should end. Towards the last quarter, I expected the suspense to be renewed. Obviously they were gonna unravel the case behind the brief and all but it left me hungry for more.

Rosenburg was easily my favourite character but was eventually replaced by Darby Shaw. I love the fact that their various personalities oozes from the book and are quite relateable.

This might be the first but will definitely not be my last Grisham book.
